Toyota Once Again Named World’s Top Auto Manufacturer

In a comeback that will go down in automotive history, Toyota has reclaimed its spot as the world’s largest auto manufacturer.  Toyota was known as the world’s largest auto manufacturer between 2008 and 2010, but slipped from top place to General Motors after the Japanese earthquake and then flooding in Thailand, which completely disrupted production.

Fortunately for the brand, they’ve reclaimed the crowin, having sold 2.49 million units during the first quarter of 2012, compared to 2.28 million by General Motors.  Volkswagen, the world’s number three, sold 2.16 million.  Volkswagen is extremely popular in Europe, thanks partly to their success in diesel engineering which is highly sough after in those markets.

Toyota is in a better position now than it has been in years thanks to the many fuel-efficient vehicles they have available, chief among them being the Prius.  With global gas prices still high, demand for its fuel-efficient vehicles is soaring

Toyota Quadruple Sale Profits

Toyota Motor recorded a distinctly higher quarterly profit on Wednesday and revealed an upbeat fiscal 2013 forecast.  This is superbly excellent new for Toyota as it continues to rebound from last year’s natural disasters in Japan and Thailand.  The automaker showed aa 23% jump in quarterly sales for the period ended March 31 to 18.58 trillion yen from 4.6 trillion yen a year ago. Its profit more than quadrupled to 121 billion yen.

“Certainly the last fiscal year was extremely challenging due to the natural disasters in Japan and Thailand, plus the unprecedented strength of the yen,” Toyota president Akio Toyoda told media. “But, thanks to the concerted efforts of our employees, suppliers, and dealers, we were able to recover production and sales faster than anticipated and achieved a strong result

Akio Toyoda also said the Toyota company plans to announce significant changes to some of its products in many different markets this year as part of a “better cars” campaign.

Toyota to Unveil RAV4 Electric

The 26th International Electric Vehicle Symposium, or EVS26, happens during the second week of May this year, from the 6th through the 9th.  The EVS26 is all about electric cars and vehicles, electric vehicle charging and refueling, environment policies with plenty more to see and hear about.  This year, Toyota Motor Corp. said it will reveal the new RAV4 EV compact crossover during the conference.

Toyota, which has long said it would build a battery-powered version of the RAV4, last year confirmed it would sell the coming vehicle to retail consumers and not just to fleet customers. The auto manufacturer previously built electric powered RAVs in the late 1990s and said it expects the new version to compete effectively against the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt and other electric and plug-in-hybrid models coming to market soon.

To be one of the very first people to get your hands on a battery-powered RAV4, or any other 2013 vehicle, contact Magic Toyota in Everett.

Toyota Partners For Cleaner Air Technologies

Plenty of auto manufacturers in the industry are currently focused on researching, developing and  producing hydrogen fuel.   Toyota is included in this effort, but the company does not intend to abandon its other ventures like battery electrics and hybrid technology.  In a melding of technologies, Toyota is working to advance electric vehicles as well as those powered by hydrogen fuel.  It’s intelligent business at its finest, since both types of vehicles are expected to play a large role in the future of transportation.

The Toyota Spain auto company has partnered with a manufacturer and developer of wind turbines called Gamesa. This partnership is an an effort to promote electric vehicles throughout Spain. The two companies have a firm belief in alternative energy and its future amongst consumers.  Ultimately, the companies plan to make electric vehicles more appealing to consumers by making them more affordable.

Comedian Adam Carolla Wins Toyota Celebrity Race

The 2012 Toyota Pro Celebrity Race ended with comedian and actor Adam Carolla as the victor, beating out other television, music and sports stars in the charity event.  During the end of the race, there was a tough battle for first place in a tight group of drivers, though Carolla took first and maintained it.

“In my past races, I finished third and ninth, so I expected to finish somewhere between 15th and 18th this time,” Carolla said. “But it’s a really amazing feeling to win. And I’m also thrilled to benefit the kids at the children’s hospitals–and also the parents, who are by their kids’ side around the clock. This win is for the parents!”

2010 Formula Rookie of the Year Fredric Aasbo finished first in the Pro category.  Aasbo was happy to stand on the victory stage alongside Carolla and said, “I am so excited just to have been a part of the race, competing alongside all these great people. I feel like I have made a group of great friends here, and I am so grateful to Toyota for putting this all together to benefit the children’s hospitals.”

Toyota Introduces the Redesigned 2013 Avalon

During the 2012 New York International Auto Show, which happened last week, Toyota debuted their all-new 2013 Toyota Avalon and sent the automotive press buzzing.  When popular cars like the Avalon get completely redone, they tend to get a lot of media attention, and the 2013 Avalon was no different.  This new Avalon offers improved dynamic performance, a greater degree of refinement, and a highly spacious, comfortable interior experience with an abundance of outstanding convenience technologies.

The Avalon was designed in the US with a North American-focused design and engineering effort and will be manufactured and assembled in Toyota’s Kentucky facility.  The new sedan’s dramatic exterior and interior design was conceived by a youthful and talented team at the Calty Design Research Inc. facilities in Southern California and Michigan.

Among other things, the 2013 Avalon will have upgraded exterior and interior design, structural and chassis improvements, better ride quality, more stability and handling, more advanced valving and rebound springs, enhanced drive modes and cabin noise reductions.  To find out more about the new Avalon or to be the first to own the 2013 model, contact Magic Toyota in Everett.

Toyota to Have Luxury Brand Diesel Engines and Battery Technology

Toyota has entered the second phase of their partnership with BMW for diesel engines and to research lithium-ion battery.  The collaboration was announced last December when Toyota announced BMW would be providing them with diesel engines.  Beginning in 2004, Toyota’s diesel engines will be high-luxury grade 1.6 and 2.o liter diesel engines for the European market.  Diesels remain popular in Europe and the partnership will continue to allow Toyota a way to offer low-emissions and fuel-efficient diesel options to its customers.

Now, the two companies will move forward on producing the next generation of lithium-ion batteries that will be used in future hybrid and electric vehicles. Their goal is to produce lighter, higher-performance batteries by using new materials for cathodes, anodes, and electrolytes.

BMW isn’t the only company Toyota is partnering with for battery technology. Last summer Toyota turned to Tesla to provide batteries for the all-electric RAV4. In exchange, Toyota is providing Tesla some tips on mass production techniques.

Toyota to Debut All-New Sedan During Auto Show

Earlier today, Toyota released a teaser image of its brand new car which will be revealed during the New York Auto Show on April 5th.  They have described the car as “stunning” and having an “elegant yet athletic look”.  Toyota has not released the name of the sedan, so automotive press isn’t sure if it’s a new version of a current vehicle, or a completely brand new car altogether.  Consensus seems to be that it’s a new version of the Avalon and may get a new name as well.

Though all we get is a small peak of the rear of the vehicle, it’s obvious how sleek and sporty the vehicle looks.  It has been compared to the coupe trend of Europe, seen on the Volkswagen CC, Mercedes-Benz CLS and Audi A7.  The big difference is that this new mystery Toyota vehicle was designed in the US.

Toyota Taking Nominations For Its ’100 Cars for Good’ Campaign

Until March 27th at 2am Central, Toyota will be accepting nominations for non-profit companies that individuals feel deserve to be awarded a new Toyota vehicle.  If you’re unfamiliar with the “100 Cars for Good” program, its a program that Toyota has done for the past few years which awards 100 cars to 100 deserving nonprofit organizations over the course of 100 days.  Nominations are put to a vote on the public Toyota Facebook page, and fans get to decide which nonprofits are winners.

Public voting for the campaign will begin May 14th with five different nonprofits to choose from each day for 100 days.  The 4 organizations that do not win, don’t walk with nothing, however.  They will each be awarded a $1,000 grant from Toyota Motor Co.  The winners will get to choose from a new Camry Hybrid, Highlander SUV, Prius v hybrid, Sienna mini-van, Sienna Mobility or Tundra full-size pickup.  The winners will then make a short video explaining how the vehicle will help them in their charity work.
